Obamacare: Healthcare For All No Matter What. Yay or Nay?

26 Mar

The highly anticipated Supreme Court case of the century has finally begun.

Today the United States Supreme Court will begin its six hours of oral arguments, spread over four sessions and three days, on the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka ObamaCare.

What is Obamacare? Obamacare is the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act [PPACA] requires individuals not covered by employer- or government-sponsored insurance plans to maintain minimal essential health insurance coverage or pay a penalty unless exempted for religious beliefs or financial hardship, a provision commonly referred to as the “individual mandate“.

Meaning that every individual will have health insurance no matter what the situation or prior illnesses.

Students: Obama states that insurers would be required to provide coverage for non-dependent children up to age 26, it’s a known fact that there are many college students that are not insured because they are over 18 and their parents insurance no longer covers, or they never had it in the first place.

Pre-existing conditions: Insurance companies will be prohibited from denying coverage based on pre-existing conditions.

Countries such as Switzerland and The Netherlands have been practicing this mandate for years.

It’s safe to say that most Americans want ObamaCare gone says the Washington Times.  It’s also no secret that if ObamaCare is ruled unconstitutional this summer, it could drastically change the 2012 presidential election.  The Republicans are banking on the Supreme Court ruling it in their favor and the Obama administration is confident they will survive the Supreme Court.  No Republicans voted for the bill. and 34 Democrats voted against the measure.

Mitt Romney , a potential Republican Presidential Candidate, was accused of being hypocritical, since he instituted a form of Obamacare when he was Governor of Massachusetts. Some critics called it Obamneycare.

The Associated Press came up with a summary of what Obamacare does and here are some points:

A brief summary of the 900-page-plus Affordable Care Act, unless noted provisions take effect in 2014:

  • Provides coverage to more than 30 million uninsured.
  • Medicaid to cover more uninsured low-income people.
  • Creates exchanges, state-based health insurance markets, for small businesses and people buying private coverage individually.
  • Young adults to stay on parents’ coverage until age 26. Already in effect.
  • Requires health plans to cover preventive care without charging co-pays. Already in effect.
Cons of Obamacare:
  • Individual Mandate Means Less Liberty and More Taxes
  • The Fed Picks Your Treatment:
  • Increase in taxes paid by working citizens
  • Some may not want health insurance, and will be penalized for not doing so

To some it seems like a good idea, some don’t.. The bill is currently in the Supreme Court, so for the rest of the week a lot of Americans will be on their tippy toes waiting for the result of what could change our society.♥

3 Men Plead Guilty to Hate Crime in Good Ole’ Mississippi

22 Mar

June 2011, James Craig Anderson, an auto plant worker was harassed, beaten, and ran over by 3 men from Rankin County, Mississippi, decided to “go f**k with some niggers” after a night of partying and drinking, law enforcement officials have said, quoting some of the suspects in the case.

Auto plant worker James Craig Anderson was run over and killed by a group of white teens in June, Mississippi authorities say.

Deryl Dedmon, John Aaron Rice and Dylan Butler each admitted to conspiracy and violating the 2009 federal hate-crimes law in last June’s killing of James Craig Anderson. They face sentences of up to life in prison and $250,000 in fines, federal prosecutors said.

The 19-year-old Dedmon had already pleaded guilty to state murder and hate-crime charges Wednesday in a state court and was sentenced to life in prison. Rice, 19, and Butler, 20, made their initial appearances with Dedmon in federal court Thursday morning.

They are also expected to testify against other teens implicated in Anderson’s killing, two sources close to the proceedings told CNN.

Anderson’s death prompted several large marches and prayer vigils in Jackson, a city of about 537,000 people. The Justice Department had been looking into the slaying as a possible federal hate crime and assisting local prosecutors in the case.

At his state plea hearing, Dedmon told the court that his crimes were the result of being “young and dumb, ignorant and full of hatred.” But Hinds County Circuit Judge Jeff Weill told him, “Whatever excuse you offer, forget that. There is no excuse.”

On a videotape obtained exclusively by CNN, the group pulls into the parking lot and stops where Anderson is standing, although he is just off camera and not visible. The young men can then be seen going back and forth between their cars and Anderson.

Witnesses told authorities this is when Anderson’s beating took place, as the white youths yelled racial epithets, including “white power.” After the beating, Dedmon drove his Ford F-250 truck over him, leaving him to die, according to what some of the teens cooperating with police have told authorities.

You would think in this day and age a term such as “hate crime” wouldn’t even be thought of much less used. Seems as if we are going backward instead of progressing. It saddens me, and it is a disgrace to our country.

Abercrombie & Fitch Outlet Selling Nigger Pants?

22 Mar

The latest brand to participate in something that will get people upset is Abercrombie & Fitch. The brand has a pair of brown pants on its website called “Nigger Brown Pants.” Take a moment and reflect for a second…

The site is not the official A&F website but it is the outlet store website. defines ‘nigger’ as A contemptuous term for a black or dark-skinned person. I’m sure that the people at Abercrombie & Fitch has a good reason behind their title.. (sarcasm) ♥

Black Boy Walking. White Man Suspicious. Black Boy Dead. Self Defense?

15 Mar

Some of you may not know but the man below is George Zimmerman. A Florida resident who is a die hard member of his neighborhood watch. So die hard in fact he took the life of 17 year old   Trayvon Martin, who was walking home from a convenience store in Sanford, Fla., near Orlando.

Zimmerman called police the evening of the shooting to report Martin as a suspicious person, police have said. A dispatcher told Zimmerman to stand down and an officer was on the way. Zimmerman confronted the youth anyway and Martin was shot in the chest with Zimmerman’s 9 mm pistol, police said. Police questioned Zimmerman, then released him.

According to Martin’s family, police initially told them that Zimmerman said he acted in self-defense and that his record was “squeaky-clean.” Public records show he was arrested in Orange County in 2005 on charges of resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer. Those charges were later dropped.

The young man was reported to have only a bag of skittles in his pocket, But Zimmerman felt that he was a threat to the neighborhood (in which Martin’s step mom resided)

Benjamin Crump, the Martin family’s attorney, filed a public records lawsuit last week seeking the 911 recordings for the night of the shooting. Crump said people with access to the tapes told him Zimmerman made a comment about Martin’s race during the call and said he had no intention of letting the youth get away because, “they always get away.”

The reluctance of the Sanford Police Department to arrest Zimmerman probably has something to do with Florida’s outrageous “Stand Your Ground” law. The law removes the duty of individuals to retreat from a confrontation and allows them to use deadly force if they reasonably believe that it is necessary to prevent death or “great bodily harm.” “Stand Your Ground” legislation was enacted in 2005 after being championed in the Florida state legislature by National Rifle Association lobbyist Marion Hammer. In support of the law, Hammer said, “Through time, in this country, what I like to call bleeding heart criminal coddlers want you to give a criminal an even break, so that when you’re attacked, you’re supposed to turn around and run, rather than standing your ground and protecting yourself and your family and your property.” But critics in Florida’s legal community dubbed it the “Shoot First” law and said that it “encourages people to stand their ground … when they could just as easily walk away.” It has also been pointed out that the law “give[s] citizens more rights to use deadly force than we give police officers, and with less review.”

“I don’t think they have any intention on arresting this white man for killing this black boy,” Crump said on Sharpton’s radio show Monday.

Martin, a high school junior, who had hoped to go to college and become an aviation mechanic, his family said. He lived with is mother in Miami and was visiting his father and his father’s fiancée in Sanford the weekend he was killed. During the NBA All-Star Game, he walked to a nearby store to get candy for his little brother.

Arriving police found Martin’s 140-pound body face-down in a patch of grass less than 100 feet from his family’s home. The young man was unarmed, with a few dollars and a pack of Skittles in one pocket and a canned iced tea in the other.

No More Planned Parenthood? No More Breast Cancer Screenings? Pregnancy Test? Romney Says So..

14 Mar

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney is standing firm on his commitment to get rid of Planned Parenthood.  Romney told a reporter in Missouri that he would “get rid of” the country’s best-known reproductive health care provider if he were elected president.

In an outdoor interview with Ann Rubin of, Romney offered a few suggestions on how he would cut the deficit.

“Of course you get rid of Obamacare, that’s the easy one, but there are others,” he said. “Planned Parenthood, we’re going to get rid of that.”

Planned Parenthood responded to Romney’s comments on Tuesday, characterizing them as dangerous and out of step with what Americans want.

“When Mitt Romney says he wants to ‘get rid’ of Planned Parenthood, he means getting rid of the preventive health care that three million people a year rely on for cancer screenings, birth control, and other preventive care,” said Dawn Laguens, Vice President for Planned Parenthood Action Fund, in a written statement. “Mitt Romney simply can’t be trusted when it comes to women’s health.”

It seems like Romney isn’t for women’s rights and he is trying to push society back to the point of fighting for women’s suffrage. I used to like the guy, but now his mouth is starting to get him in trouble.

Romney has said repeatedly he wants to cut federal funding to Planned Parenthood because the organization provides abortion services.

In February, he weighed in on the Susan G. Komen controversy, saying he agreed with their now-reversed decision to cut Planned Parenthood’s funding for breast-cancer screenings.  As many breast cancer supporters as there are, it’ll be really hard for him to get the vote of those peoples whose loved ones succumbed to the cancer.

Yeah, he pretty much messed up on that one…♥

The Pell Grant Is Going Away, Slowly, But Surely…

7 Mar

An offical from the Obama administration sat down with The New York Times and explained why President Obama’s budget would eliminate a category of the Pell Grant used mostly for summer classes.

The proposal calls for the end to the policy where students could qualify for two grants in one year — one for the regular academic year and a second for summer school. Only one Pell grant per year would be awarded.  According to an Obama administration source, the savings would be $8 billion dollars next year, and $60 billion dollars over 10 years.

Jacob Lew, director of the Office of Management and Budget, said the second change would affect graduate and professional school students, reducing loan subsidies for these students.

On the other hand, there is abundant evidence  that traditional Pell grants — which go, roughly, to families in the bottom half of the income distribution — do lift graduation rates.

This basically means that summer tuition will have to be out of pocket and or private loan funding. This is really going to be a detriment to the families who depend on Pell to fund their child’s education.  And even the Pell during the year will be cut so the money can go into better areas, like politician vacations, and making sure they ride in fancy cars.

But, at the same time, I do believe that Pell is often given to students who don’t deserve it. The ones who drop classes after refund, or ones who don’t put school as a priority, just doing to go. So people who are well deserving have to suffer at the hands of the irresponsible. ♥
